We've had our eye on the San Francisco fashion company Cuyana since their 2013 launch. They're a company after our heart: They sell simple, modern basics from around the world (Argentine leather travel cases, oversized Scottish cashmere scarves) that are perfect for travel. We created a set of custom Fathom travel guides for their holiday pop-up in NYC, and we asked founders Karla Gallardo and Shilpa Shah for a Little Black Book of the Cuyana neighborhood, San Francisco's Union Square.

SAN FRANCISCO – Our showroom and offices have been in Union Square for about two years. We love how lively the area is: Whether it's the Chinese New Year parade or live music, there's always something going on.

WHERE TO STAY

The Clift Hotel
495 Geary St.; +1-415-775-4700
The Philippe Starck hotel just down the street from our offices is a beautiful space that feels old world and modern at the same time. The lovely lobby is filled with stunning artwork, including a Salvador Dalí. The Redwood Room is one of our favorite places to relax and have cocktails with our team after a long day.

EVERYDAY LUNCH SPOTS

Cafe Madeleine
43 O'Farrell St.; +1-415-362-1713
Fresh, easy salads and sandwiches with a Parisian flair. We love the burrata cheese and beet salad. And we'd be remiss not to mention the lavish pastry and dessert offerings.

Bio
75 Farrell St.; +1-415-362-0255
A darling cafe opened by a Frenchwoman who serves an array of vegan and vegetarian options that change daily based on seasonally available produce. We love the whole wheat brussels sprouts and avocado sandwich. (We forget it's vegan!)

CELEBRATORY MEALS

Akikos
431 Bush St.; +1-415-397-3218
As soon as you step in, you feel calmer. The atmosphere and decor are soothing and peaceful, the sushi is delicious, and the service excellent. We've done a few team birthday lunches here; it's always a good time.

BEST THINGS TO SEE AND DO

Cuyana
291 Geary St., Floor 2; +1-844-326-6005
We opened our showroom in June 2013 in the same building where we have our offices. Ours is a perfect lcoation for a fashion brand: in the heart of the city's best shopping and fashion, right across from Saks and just a few blocks from the hustle and bustle of Market Street. It's literally the center of San Francisco, incredibly accessible to everyone.

Franklin Bowles Galleries
765 Beach St.; +1-415-441-8008
Union Square has amazing art galleries, most notably Franklin Bowles Galleries, which just opened its second SF outpost on Geary down the block from us. (A third location is in NYC.) They show established artists like LeRoy Neiman as well as up-and-comers like Pierre Boncompain. When they have openings, we make a point of stopping by.

Chinatown
Grant Ave. and Bush St.
The gateway to Chinatown is a few blocks away. You literally step through a dragon-themed arch and are transported into a different world: packed trinkets stands, overflowing groceries and bakeries, live fish stalls, and delicious hole-in-the-wall dim sum.

Maiden Lane
Next to Union Square Park
Union Square is a shopper's mecca, with big department stores, luxury shops, and indie boutiques. We especially love browsing Maiden Lane — a quaint, hidden, brick-lined street with high-end boutiques like Chanel and Wolford, smaller shops like Diptyque, and an amazing textiles store called Britex Fabrics.
