HONG KONG – They say that the natural shape of Hong Kong Island (high ground on the backside and an unobstructed Victoria Harbor view in front) gives the city very good feng shui. Become one with the grand city! Recognize golden opportunities when you see them.

HK Market

Various market scenes.

DRAGON

Feel free to be fiery: A little haggling makes you stronger. Ladies Market in Mong Kok, Stanley Market on the backside of the island, and Temple Street Night Market are good places to show your teeth.

Stroll through HK Park.

BAMBOO

Hong Kong Park is a garden oasis surrounded by skyscrapers. When the crowds become too much for you, detour through the tropical aviary. (Free bird-watching tours happen every Wednesday.)

Big Buddha

BUDDHA

Take the train to Tung Chung Station and then a cable car up to the 112-foot Tian Tan Buddha (aka Big Buddha) on Hong Kong's Lantau island. It is customary to throw your coins at the tranquil bronze statue. (Guess you've got to give a little to get a little.)

Moustache

Sizing up the suiting at Moustache.

COINS

Any gent will look like a million bucks with a Shanghainese pedicure from The Mandarin Barber. Moustache custom-tailors slim-fit suits (with great patterns) for the fellas.

Education has infinite rewards, so jump right into the city's DIY movement. Tallensia Floral Art hosts "flower-jamming" sessions where you make your own arrangements. Oscary Wine & Art is a cafe that provides canvas and paint for creative impulses. Fungus Workshop is a cozy workspace for making small leather goods.

Star Ferry

MYSTIC KNOT

Get nautical. Star Ferry runs between HK Island and Kowloon and is one of the best (and cheapest) ways to see the whole city at once. An evening ride shows off the especially glittery side of the Hong Kong Island.
