Fathom Favorites : Hamptons Hotels

1. Shou Sugi Ban House

Shou Sugi Ban House

The first comprehensive wellness retreat in the Hamptons is located on three acres of verdant land adjacent to the Parrish Art Museum. The Japanese-inspired sanctuary was created by a former corporate attorney who wanted to “blend global wellness philosophies with state-of-the-art practices” in a tranquil space that “allows for quiet contemplation and introspection.” There are thirteen guest studios, a swimming pool, demonstration kitchen, treatment spa, and fitness center. Meals are designed by Noma co-founder Mads Refslund with the help of a resident nutritionist and feature produce from the on-site organic vegetable and herb gardens. All-inclusive four-, five- and seven-day itineraries are offered for overnight guests; day guests can partake in half- and full-day spa rituals.

2. Shelter Island House

Previously known as La Maison Blanche, Shelter Island House is a pet-friendly boutique hotel with eight garden-view rooms, complimentary bicycle use, and pétanque court. Shout-out to the in-house bakery, where fresh breads and croissants are made daily.

Shelter Island Heights, NY 11965

3. Baron's Cove

The newly renovated Baron's Cove hotel opened its doors last summer. Pack for prep-tastic happenings: sailing, tennis, G+Ts by the flag pole.

Sag Harbor, NY 11963

4. Topping Rose House

A beautifully restored 1842 Greek Revival mansion is now a small luxury inn, stellar restaurant, and farm, with chef Jean-Georges Vongerichten consulting on the menu this summer. Start with a drink on the wrap-around porch before sitting down in the breezy dining room for fresh greens straight from the hotel's farm.

5. Reform Club (Inn at Windmill Lane)

Classically modern cottages and suites with ridiculously lavish amenities,: Duxiana beds, private exercise rooms, rain showers, preferred tee times at Montauk Downs Golf Club.

Amagansett, 11930

6. Sunset Beach

André Balazs revamps a 1960s motel as a chic summercamp for adults. It's stylish, whimsical, and somewhat secluded (aside from the raucous sunset cocktail hours).

35 Shore Rd.
Shelter Island, 11965

7. C/O The Maidstone

Scandinavian design group C/O add a fresh — and sustainable — layer of personality to the posh hotel, restaurant, and grounds. Widly decorated rooms are bursting with color, fancy bath products, and the occasional claw-footed bath tub in the middle of the room. Foodie-family friendly (dogs, too).

East Hampton, NY, 11937

8. Capri

Thirty beachy guest rooms done up by the guys behind W South Beach and Suf Lodge in Montauk, a Nobu restaurant, and a shop curated by Cynthia Rowley. No doubt it's a scene, especially at The Bathing Club, the hotel's pool lounge. Prepare for beaching with cocktails in hand.

9. Southampton Inn

Classic East End resort in walking distance to town. Engage in preppy Southampton pastimes (tennis, swimming, croquet, cocktailing) on five well-manicured acres. On chilly nites, cozy up to the fireplace.

91 Hill St.
Southampton, NY, 11968

10. The Baker House 1650

Within walking distance of East Hampton village. A sunny breakfast room, pool, 200-year-old wisteria pergola. As a major bonus, guests get coveted beach parking passes.

East Hampton, NY, 11937

11. American Hotel

An icon of the whaling era in a gorgeous seaside town that feels more New Englandy than the rest of the Hamptons. There are only eight guest rooms, so it's tough to book. A well-regarded restaurant lets you take a peek into the place. Service can be a little snarky.

15. Gurney's Montauk

Since new owners took over in 2013, the 90-year-old oceanfront resort has been undergoing a major facelift: 42 newly renovated rooms, a 30,000 square-foot spa and sand-filtered seawater pool, new dining options (The Beach Club is our favorite), and most recently Gurney's Residences opening this year.
