LA Designer Flocks to Marrakech

Marrakech and Cerre have a lot in common. Though one sprawling is a city, and the other is a sought-after luxury leather brand only available at its eponymous Melrose Avenue boutique, they share an air of mystery, an appreciation for authenticity, and an open invitation to sit for a cup of tea. It's no surprise that Flavie Webster, who co-designs the line with her husband Clayton, fell hard for the Ochre City while exploring it this past spring. She shares some of the most beautiful moments of her trip.

Here I am in Djemaa el Fna (the square) preparing to visit the souks.

The culture shock: Coca-Cola trucks and horses as transportation. It's crazy how both operate on the same streets.

Many of the best stalls are specialized. This one carries only beautiful lanterns.

Indigo scarves drying in the sun. You can ask anyone in the medina to take you to Souk des Teinturiers, the dyers's area south of Souk Chouari (the carpentry area) and they will take you (for a tip). The dyeing process is something to see.

Some of the different fabric dyes that commonly used. Some of the colors change when they come into contact with water.

After the yarn is dyed, it is transported to the weaver by this man.

Yves Saint Laurent's house behind his cactus garden. You can visit Majorelle Garden. It was designed by a French artist called Jacques Majorelle in the late 1920's/early 1930's.

Everything is so vibrant in the garden at the estate. Don't miss the gallery of all the greeting cards that Saint Laurent made throughout the years, or the boutique carrying local designers along with YSL scarves and accessories.

Finally, a cat. Every time I go to Persia, cats are always present. This one was so cute, so I had to share it.
